In Forza 3 I almost always upgraded for handling with typically very light engine mods. It seemed to me the optimal upgrade was from the bottom middle of a class (in PI) to the max PI for that class. If you start with a car too close to the max PI for the class, you didn't have enough room for all the adjustable handling mods. On the other hand, if you started too low -- like a car in the middle of the next lower class, it never seemed quite as competitive.

I know the PI assignments have changed somewhat in F4 so maybe the "sweet spot" is somewhere else this time around
I came to a similar conclusion about Forza 3. Getting a middle of the pack vehicle really let you tweak the car as needed. I always had best results going with suspension, tire compound, brakes, and either some weight reduction or light power modifications.

I have had to change my approach somewhat in FM4 because changing tire compound really seems to bumps up the PI level. Well, at least on the 240sx and some of the other low end cars I have been using. I haven't tried one of my higher end cars yet so tire compound may translate to less of a PI change if the game assumes that the starting tires on each car has a different level of grip.

Anyone know if we can import our designs from FM3? If we can, how? I want my 370z design back, but would prefer not to recreate it.
