should, but I don't always. And why should I anyway? If I shift into the wrong gear, I'll just be shifting back anyway, but that process may take 5 seconds, all told. I'd rather take a self-caused delay than a misshift.
I've never been big on the "always be in gear" philosophy. I think it's ok to drift in neutral as long as you're in control of the vehicle.
