i think it's the softer sidewalls that contributes to the rounded shape. at least they look wider than the RE050A's from the back even with the factory sizes.

yah, i too test drove these DW's in a downpour in my Z a few months ago and it did very well. i have to mention that i ran the same condition in my G35C which is running the new Bridgestone S04's (275/35/19, 245/35/19). the S04's are even better in the wet than the DW's. S04's look great from the side but from the back looks kinda narrow.
