I just hope DSG-type transmissions come down in cost enough to be on Z-level cars sometime in the next several years. Something tells me before that happens though, the world will have moved on to all-electric sportscars in the mainstream anyways. The ideal setup seems to be 4 electric motors, one in each wheel, with a giant battery pack for the short term and a tiny fixed-rpm gasoline generator separately in the trunk that serves as a battery recharger for longer cruising. With that sort of setup you get AWD, instant torque at any speed/rpm, perfect traction control, awesome regenerative brakes, and no shifting necessary at all. They trounce traditional cars in theory, it's just matter of time for the engineering to be perfected and the component prices to come down.
