Yeah, if you can feel them, that's tough. Problem is that you really need to take away material to smooth them out - but then it's impossible to match the texture.
I've heard of high-end detailers doing it by smoothing it out, heating it up and then using a textured stamp / plate to recreate the texture (think concrete stamping), but I don't think it's a DIY or anything.
If I get one where there is a ridge of material I'll just take an Xacto and carefully trim off the ridge / burr. Makes it less obvious at least.
