No, thicker oil would more than likely get hotter as it's being "squished" more...
Even then, using 40 or 50 oil could potentially damage the engine.
5w-30 should be common nearly everywhere (even overseas, unless your area doesn't have any new vehicles from the past 10 years). Look around for it.
