i suppose if you can save in RAW file + use SLR lens you might be able to get to DSLR quality via decoding using PS and saving your file.
this way you can manipulate the data later.
from the many folks that i know that have DSLR's they only use auto-mode anyway so i think only using 75-80% of the total performance of the camera. (based on my very little knowledge i have about cameras.
)
i know for certain after playing with mine a little bit that I can squeeze quite a bit more out the camera in the manual or partial manual modes vs auto-mode. i just need more experience to get that in control...
