You can rent a 2-jaw puller from autozone for free. I think they have it listed as a tie-rod puller but it will work fine for that ball joint as well. Can you do it without it? Possibly by backing off the nut applying a little heat and whacking the bottom of the joint with a hammer or placing a jack under it. You're a lot less likely to damage something with the puller. If you decide to buy the tool instead it is only about $25 at Sears.

This is getting more complex by the minute lol. I should probably just play it safe and let the mechanic do this one. I thought it was only going to require i unscrew a few things, yank some parts out, and screw some new stuff back in lol.
