I've driven an older Z4 with the 3 liter engine, and it was a lot of fun. BMW's clutch and shifter feel is better imo, and while both are gorgeous cars, I think the Z4 is slightly prettier and a little rarer.

That being said, the Z is most likely faster off the showroom floor and has a better enthusiast community imo. It's also cheaper to maintain than the Bimmer, which only matters if you plan to own the car beyond warranty.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. Both are gorgeous sports cars that will make you smile from ear to ear.
