It's not the only determining factor. Their front teeth continuously grow throughout their lives, which is why they constantly chew, to grind the teeth down.
Also, they are mostly cartilage, so they can slip through very small cracks that you'd think were impossible.
That's just from what I've read. One thing I know for sure, though. In icy conditions, rats cannot beat a labrador in a race. I saw that result twice last winter.
