Don't get me wrong, of course I do all the recommended (and at times beyond recommended) maintenance tasks, but I did not know that you HAD to do these tasks to be granted warranty work?

I believe if you don't follow the recommended maintenance schedule Nissan published they
could use that to deny a warranty claim. To my understanding you don't have to do more than that, but if you see oil sparying out from the side of the block you better tow in the vehicle rather than continue to drive it.
Any good master mechanic can tell if the car was maintained or abused.
