Ryan is on his way to NC!
Got the car back in this morning, luckly found two Flex-a-lite fans local and went to town today! Replaced the OEM fans with a 16" 2300cfm and a 10" 1800cfm. The smaller fan I centered over the turbo, wiring it to be on at all times when the ignition is on. This should help the start of the problem, the heat from the turbo radiating forward and heat soaking the radiator. The 16" fan fits to the left, the hotside of the radiator, and is wired so the ECU/thermostat will trigger the fan to low with the A/C on, or high if the coolant temps start to rise. I also wired the larger fan to a switch inside the car so Ryan can turn it on himself, to the higher speed, if he feels necessary. I put the car through some good tests this afternoon with the new setup and while it was most definitely hot, it never went outside of "driveable" conditions (coolant temp 2 dots to the right of center, oil temp 230*). These temps were reached with the car parked against a wall, zero airflow through the front of the car, fans running per the car (not manually switched on), after 40min of the car being to temp. I think that's acceptable to tell Ryan, get this bitch on the road to NC for the weekend! I wish all you guys going to Zdays a safe trip and look forward to some comments from those that get to check out the car this weekend! Ryan's build has definitely been a learning experience for me and I think we finally have a handle on the heat of a top mount single!!
The new fan setup
Enjoy!
