I tried unbolting everything and then tightening it back down while having another person hold it as high is it would go. As soon as I tightened the bolts it pulled the pipes back down against the crossmember. I'm a little afraid that the amount of force necessary to keep it from moving back down against the crossmember would damage the pipe.
