If you wanted to avoid being "1uped" then you should have got the touring with sport package yourself. Or maybe you should have considered a used car in the $30k price range since there's a ton out there that cost $45k+ new and are just a few years old.
I see your point but if you got the base model it will be "1uped" by anything other than another base model and I think most folks opt for the sport package when possible. You get a lot for $3k vs. the base.
You could always buy some wheels, lower the car a tad and install an in-dash DVD player. Then you would be a baller too.
