The subaru version will also not be AWD (which is pissing off a lot of suby guys). The car is slated to have 170-200hp and come in with a weight of 2700-3000lbs. Originally it was estimated to have 220hp and 2600lbs but that has now but squashed. That's not to say that these specs are set in stone, we won't know that until it's released, but inside informers have basically said this will be a miata fighter and not something that will step up to the likes of the 370z/mustang/camaro/genesis. Also, price is said to be 20-25k. Lastly, for engine specs pay attention to the new 2012 impreza that was just released. Sources say it will be the same engine that will power the FT-86.

I think you're actually more out of the loop.
The car will be priced much closer to 30k, not 20-25k.
It's been well known for a while that the car won't be AWD. The engine placement does not allow for the use of subaru's AWD system.
The engine will be a tuned up EJ20, or the new FB20. Subaru is currently planning to release
only a turbo edition, while toyota is planning on releasing several. It's been known since the beginning that the car would be focused more on being lightweight and fun, rather than powerful.
This may all change, of course, since even the manufacturers don't know for sure what will happen at this point.
