Default Food for thought.......

In Feb of 2007 I was run over by a drunk driver on I-20 in Alabama. I was in a 2006 Chrysler 300 and he was in a big construction truck. He ran completely over my car and caved the car and roof down on top of me. It took them 2 1/2 hours to cut me out.

As you might expect, I suffered severe head injuries, a brain injury, and had my legs broken in 22 places. I spent 7 months in the hospital recovering from this accident.

The things you might not expect are: all my mollars were completely shattered and fell out, so I now have no mollars. I also lost vision completely in my right eye, forever, which was my dominant eye. My left eye is only partially functioning as both eyes suffered damage to the optic nerve. I must now wear glasses ALL THE TIME or I cant see at all (I cant even read a speed sign without my glasses).

The end result is that I can only eat certain foods (imagine eating steak without mollars). I also dont swim anymore as I cant take my glasses off. I have ridden motorcycles my whole life but dont anymore due to my limited vision.

My brain injury is mostly healed but doctors say the total healing will be a lifelong process. My broken legs have healed but my knees were destroyed and I cant bend down anymore. I will eventually have to get artificial knees but the doctors are holding off until I am 52 or 53 (currently 48 this year).

I didnt write this for sympathy but to hopefully make you think about life with limitations beyond your control. So, the next time you eat a steak, ride a motorcycle, shoot a gun or pool, or see something beautiful, enjoy the moment and realise how lucky you are to be able to do/enjoy these things.

Have a great day!
