Question Does this sound right?

Went to buy my Z today and didn't go through with it because this price seems sketchy.

I originally went to the dealer a week ago and took with me the quote from Amex/Zag of $39,729 for a 2011/Touring/Sport/Auto/Nav (it said btw that another dealer ~100m away was quoting $39,029). They said no problem on that, and they knew they would need to go out-of-state to find me one.

Went in today and they say there's only two in the country (White/Gray interior), one is 1k miles away and the other is much further even. Now they say though that because it's out-of-state that they can't honor the VPP pricing. Best they could do they said was $40,383 + I pay the cost of bringing the car here (plus title+tax).

Maybe I'm stupid but it did seem like that really was the best they could do, because he told me to try elsewhere and didn't try to haggle with me at all. Even with check in hand. He said that since it's not in stock at their location that they don't get the holdback which is how they would otherwise give me that price (according to How to pay LESS THAN INVOICE pricing! this is about $800)

I wanted to buy in the next two days basically, so does this seem reasonable or are the other dealerships worth my time?
