The strap wrench is a different tool. It utilizes a heavy duty plastic handle with a heavy duty (slip-proof) rubber belt. This rubber belt is what contacts directly with your stock shift knob for removal. It should not have torn your shift knob leather if used correctly. ooo. i meant the vice grip to hold the bottom and not the shift knob. pretty much to hold the shaft thingy majigy. sorry about that.
